# Products: one-time upsell, swap/add and preselected plan

> Configure per product what's offered as a discounted one-time purchase, what can be swapped into or added to a subscription from the portal, and which plan comes preselected in the store.

The **Products** section controls, product by product, what your subscribers see beyond their plan: which products are offered as a **discounted one-time purchase** (upsell), which ones can be **swapped or added** to a subscription from the portal, and —when a product has more than one plan— which one comes **preselected** on the product page.

<Note>
  Subscription terms aren't defined here. Frequency and price live in [Plans](/en/merchant/plans): a product is subscribable because it's tied to an active plan, not because of what you configure on this screen.
</Note>

The screen lists your active Shopify catalog, with a search by name or SKU and pagination. Each product card shows the **Upsell** and **Swap/Add** labels when that capability is enabled. There's a single **Save changes** button for the whole page: you can edit several products —even across different pages of the list— and save them all at once.

## One-time upsell

Mark a product as **"Eligible for one-time upsell"** to offer it as a discounted one-time purchase in two places:

* **The product page**: the buy box shows the offer next to the subscription, and if the customer adds it, it's charged in the same signup checkout.
* **The customer portal**: it appears in the "Add something one time" section, where the subscriber buys it with an immediate charge and receives it along with their next delivery.

Per-product options:

| Option                | What it does                                                                                                            |
| --------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **% discount** | Discount off the list price, from 0 to 99. The customer sees the original price struck through and the discount applied |
| **Show to customers** | Lets you leave the upsell configured but hidden, for example while you prepare a campaign |
| **Offered variants** | Checkboxes per variant. If you tick none, all of them are offered |

On the customer's side, the full experience is described in [Add-ons](/en/subscriber/add-ons).

## Swapping or adding in the subscription

Mark **"Available to swap or add in the subscription"** so that product appears in the portal when a subscriber edits their plan: both to **replace** a product in their subscription and to **add another one**.

* **Variants the customer can choose**: checkboxes per variant; if you tick none, all of them are shown.
* Only variants with an **active plan on the same frequency** as the customer's subscription are offered — all the products in a subscription share the mandate's frequency.
* If you enabled "Show out-of-stock products" in [Settings](/en/merchant/settings), sold-out variants also appear; otherwise they're hidden.

<Warning>
  If no product has this option enabled, the subscriber can change quantities and remove products, but **won't be able to add or swap to another product** from their portal. If you want to offer that flexibility, this is the switch.
</Warning>

## Preselected plan in the store

This selector appears only on products that have **more than one active plan**. It defines which one comes checked when the customer lands on the product page; the rest stay available in the frequency dropdown.

* **Automatic (shortest frequency)**: the default behavior.
* **A specific plan**: useful when two plans share a frequency and you want the buy box to open with your best offer, instead of an arbitrary order.

<Tip>
  Combine it with each plan's **"Name on the product page"** field (in [Plans](/en/merchant/plans)) to also control the text each selector option is shown with.
